Article: Three best Patisseries in Jo'burg by Hasmita Nair
"The Patisserie. Established in 2003, this French coffee shop and tea lounge is a delight to the senses. The pink and white striped walls, contrasted by black and white floor tiles, make you feel as though you're in a Parisian café. In addition to cakes, The Patisserie also does breakfasts (think homemade muesli with Greek yoghurt) and lunches (it prides itself on salmon fishcakes covered with rocket mayonnaise sauce)"
"After spending a few days here in Johannesburg, it all seemed much better when I made my pilgrimage to The Patisserie in Illovo. After side-stepping the perfectly iced petit fours, I ordered a fish cake. It was definitely the plumpest one I've had to date, made up of moist salmon with flecks of smoked haddock, and served smothered with rocket mayo and a pile of dressed leaves and avo. "
The Finweek tribe took one for the team and graciously offered to do a blind mince pie taste test. Here's how they rated The Patisserie, Illovo:
Five Stars ***** "This one definitely took the cake. Described as 'gooey and yummy', it has the perfect fruit-to-dough balance. While it sticks to the traditional mince-pie formula, a sprinkling of toasted almonds on top won us over. The pies were freshly baked, and the price (R20 each) confirms the high-quality ingredients do make for a high-quality eating experience."
